Near the southernmost tip of Israel and only a short drive from Eilat and its beautiful red sea beaches, high in the mountains overlooking the Jordan valley lay hidden some of our favorite technical desert singletrack in Israel.

We were happy to get an official invitation from the ministry of tourism to join a group of international mountain bike journalists for a day of shuttle assisted riding in the area (we also climbed quite a bit!). Even more exciting, we found out that we’ll be riding with two Norco pro riders from Canada, Sarah Leishman and Mike Hopkins. Mike Hopkins in particular needs little introduction in the mountain biking world, he has numerous freeride movie segments to his name in addition to riding in the Red Bull Rampage, the world’s ultimate bike handling test.

While Israel’s mountain biking scene has a lot more to offer other than desert riding, it’s almost always a sure bet in terms of avoiding the rain – and certainly in terms of creating a unique experience. The scenery is not something you’d find anywhere in Europe or Canada, and as always this only added to enjoyment of the day.

Shredding the desert with an international group of skilled riders was good fun, and of course, we took the time to get some photos and video, so you can enjoy a bit of the action too!

Thanks to Samar biking hotel for hosting us and the logistics support.
