Ben Shemen is Israel’s most popular mountain biking destination. Situated about 20 minutes south east of Tel Aviv, it is a large forest area covering a multitude of rolling hills. The domain features a myriad of trails, most of which are of the fun, flowy kind. Any number of variations can be put together, which is why so many Israeli riders like to use the area: got 1 hour to ride before or after work? No problem, quick 10k singletrack loop. Want a longer ride? Take the 30km red trail.
Some of the trails here are purpose-built by the Jewish National Fund (“KKL”) specifically for mountain biking, and these are best ridden in the direction intended (see GPS files below). Other trails “just came to be”…and they can be easily added to any of the other loops as well. Most rides start and end from the main parking area in “Miztpe Modiin”, although locals park in other areas too. There are typically a couple of small businesses ready to serve up refreshments or bike parts available here too – just look for the trailers/awnings.
The riding in Ben Shemen is what you make it. Want fast flowy singletrack – you got it. Want a few jumps and drops – there are trails for that too. Want to work on technical climbing or rockgarden descending, just say the word. Our standard loops will take you out there and back, but you can also talk to us about a guided tour if you want something bespoke. Just beware, the Ben Shemen Trail Center gets incredibly busy over weekends, and several thousand riders will show up to ride the trails here over those 2 days of the week.
